My Story

My name is Morgan Aquino, and I am Birdie’s mom. Several years ago, this beautiful little girl flew into our lives unexpectedly and unannounced, and it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to our family. We didn’t know she was coming, but that didn’t matter. God had a plan. And with every ounce of my heart and soul, I believe He led us on a journey, one that has changed us forever and is now leading us toward something even greater.

Our journey lasted 1,368 days. During that time, God began to put something else on my heart: to help others who are, or will be, walking a similar path. Honestly, I couldn’t imagine taking on anything more. It was the most raw, emotional, difficult, exhausting, terrifying, beautiful, and humbling experience of my life. At that time there were no guarantees Birdie would remain in our home and the phrase “walking around with your heart outside of your chest” had never felt more real.

My prayer journals from that time are still stained with tears—tears shed as I poured my heart out to God. I remember one moment vividly. Through sobs, I cried, “God, do you even see me? Do you hear my cries? I’m doing everything You asked…why aren’t You putting an end to this now? Help me!” God spoke to me and all he said was, “I built you to last. I’m here, and there’s so much more for you to do.” Let me tell you—when you’re in the midst of heartbreak and fear, that’s NOT  the answer you want. But it was the answer I got. And I did last. We all did. And now…we’ve arrived at the “more.”

Throughout the emotional toll, there was also a heavy financial toll. By God’s grace, and through years of faithful giving and hard work, we were able to cover every expense as it came. But I know that’s not the case for everyone. I believe God placed it on my heart to help others going through the same thing—and this is that calling. There are families out there right now crying out to God, wondering if they’ll make it through. If that’s you, I want you to know: God hears you. I know firsthand how overwhelming financial strain can be and how it can make even the strongest hearts tremble. But here’s the truth: finances don’t define a good parent. The inability to write endless checks should never disqualify someone from opening their heart and home to a child who needs love, safety, and belonging. Children don’t care what’s in your bank account. They care about being loved, wanted, and safe.

That is our purpose. Bridge of Grace OK exists to help bridge the financial gap, to relieve stress where we can, to support families who are called to love, and to help ensure children find the homes they deserve. We know we can’t fix every story. Each journey is unique and sacred. But if we can help just one child and one family find their way, like Birdie did for ours, then Bridge of Grace OK will be a success.
